The Background

The Meath Epilepsy Charity supports adults who live with complex epilepsy and associated disabilities to live life as independently as possible. The people we support at the Meath are encouraged to enjoy daily activities which enrich each individual’s physical emotional and cognitive wellbeing. Changing Perceptions is the Meath’s social enterprise which not only provides the people we support with meaningful and enjoyable sessions in up-cycling and creating furniture and homeware but also allows them to feel integrated and valued members of the local community.

Our furniture upcycling and repurposing workshop ‘Changing Perceptions’ evolved from a successful woodworking project based originally at the Meath’s main site in Westbrook Road in Godalming.

The Meath knew that a socially responsible and eco-friendly operation would provide the people we support with transferable skills and would also be a great asset to the town. The workshop and saleroom, along with its quirky café, has truly taken Godalming by storm. It is a popular meeting place for young families and business people alike and has a reputation for both the quality of its painted furniture and its food, but more importantly, its heart!
